Our Story

The evening is the most crucial part of the day when it comes to blocking artificial blue-light.

After sunset, the pineal gland begins to secrete melatonin (the master sleep hormone and a potent antioxidant), this is due to the infrared wavelengths of light emitted from the sun at this time of day, signalling to the brain that it is evening. With darkness following, increasing melatonin production further.

Optimising melatonin production is connected with improved sleep quality by helping decrease sleep latency (the time it takes the fall asleep), as well as assisting in the ability to fall into a deep sleep/REM sleep. It also has many effects metabolically, for example by positively influencing hunger hormones such as grhelin and the satiety hormone leptin.

The issue with artificial blue-light at night is that it mimics the same wavelengths of light that the sun produces in the morning. This can disrupt the body's natural circadian rhythm (the sleep-wake cycle) by suppressing melatonin production and increasing cortisol, a stress hormone.

Staring at a digital screen can also strain the eyes, leading to blurry vision, headaches, and difficulty focusing.

Zen Optics Blue Light Blocking Glasses were created to help you limit your exposure to harmful blue light. These lenses specifically target the harmful frequencies emitted by phones, computers, screens, and LED lights. Significantly reducing exposure.
